Drogheda Motor Show Weekender

Drogheda will be a motoring paradise for the weekend with all dealerships opening their doors to showcase their 172 range of new cars and special offers.

With the festivities all happening in every individual dealership this competition binds everyone and everything together.

The local Schools are all being invited this year to take part in a ”Design a Mascot” competition and we are delighted to have been partnered with St. Joseph’s CBS, Sundays Gate Drogheda

How it works?

We’ve teamed up with a renowned Irish costume production company to create our very own Drogheda Motor Weekender Custom Made Costume to be worn as a mascot. Every school will have elements of it’s design incorporated into the final design. The production company will take the best elements from each school and work them into a final design.

Every school will get a project pack for their 5th and, or 6th classes that consists of a colouring sheet with the silhouette of the mascot for each pupil, the rules of the competition and a large (A0) project submission sheet.

You’ll have a blank canvas and the theme will be Drogheda Motor Show / Local History / Driving / Motor Car.

Each school will be partnered with one motor manufacturer brand (e.g. Ford or Opel) from the 16 makes of car participating in the Drogheda Motor Weekender event. You can get inspired by their colours, perhaps their marquee design but we’re leaving it up to you.

You could use sponges or sticks, fingers or feathers to paint. You could accessorise with buttons or butterflies, tinfoil or tin cans. It can be 2D or 3D. It can be mono or multi-colour.

When your design is finished, each school's mascot design will be displayed at the Irish Maritime Festival in the weekend ahead of the main Motor Weekender event. This is where the mascot will be unveiled to the public!

Your school's design will be featured prominently on Drogheda Port for everyone to admire. We'll also feature it through our social media channels.

And the reason we call it a challenge is because there can only be three winners for first, second or third. The Highlanes Gallery will judge them all. However, everyone is a winner as their picture will be displayed in Dealerships, our social media channels as well as elements within the final mascot design itself.

We again wanted to support local retailers so the prizes are vouchers for Opening Minds – 1st prize is €300, 2nd is €200 and 3rd prize is €100.

We'd like to share news of the challenge with the local papers around the 20th May and we’re super excited about unveiling the final design at the Irish Maritime Festival. On the Saturday morning, the winners will be announced, all designs will be on display and the mascot will be revealed to the public.

The Drogheda Motor Weekender organising committee, does our very best to support other local businesses through the provision of their services in the delivery of the event. Our suppliers are local, like us. We are delighted to support other local businesses and to include the future entrepreneurs of Drogheda in this exciting event, which is proudly supported by First Citizen Finance, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), and the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce.
